Removing damaged bridge concrete on the Brenner motorway
Ultrahigh-pressure water jetting played a key role in the renovation of the Brenner motorway. This project shows how damaged bridge concrete can be removed efficiently while protecting sound structures and exposing reinforcement for reliable restoration.

Ultrahigh-pressure water jetting for bridge concrete restoration
When the Brenner motorway was renovated, the contractor needed a method for removing large areas of damaged concrete from supporting columns and the underside of the structure. Years of frost, de-icing salt, vibration and growing heavy goods traffic had weakened more than 15,000 square metres of concrete. Ultrahigh-pressure water jetting was the most economical and technically suitable solution for restoring the unsupported concrete structures.
DYNAJET, together with its local partner in Italy, supplied an ultrahigh-pressure water jetting system for the job and supported the project throughout the renovation phase. Damaged material could be stripped away without vibration, while intact concrete remained unaffected. At the same time, the steel reinforcement was fully exposed, creating a solid basis for the next restoration steps.
For professional operators, this project highlights why high-pressure removal is often preferred on bridges and other load-bearing structures. It helps reduce mechanical stress on the building fabric, supports precise material removal and can improve efficiency on site. A four-jet rotor nozzle provided strong area coverage and low reaction force, making the work easier and safer, including from cherry pickers or scaffolding.
The site conditions also demanded a compact and practical setup. Difficult access routes, steep approaches and limited water supply made logistics a major factor. Installed as a stationary module on an all-terrain lorry with an additional water tank, the unit could operate for long periods under harsh conditions. For infrastructure contractors, this is a clear example of how the right ultrahigh-pressure system can support reliable concrete restoration in real-world environments.

The compact mounted module delivered high power in a small footprint, which was essential on steep approaches and narrow working areas along the motorway.

Practical advantages for concrete removal on bridges
High-pressure water jetting removed weakened concrete without vibration and exposed reinforcement cleanly, supporting precise restoration work on site.
